What Are We Gonna Do About It?
There is so much evil in this world. Everywhere you turn, something horrible has happened. People who don’t deserve destruction are dealt it in droves. People who are hurting and suffering don’t receive help, care, or often even a second thought. I look around at this world of ours and my heart breaks because I feel helpless. I want to save everyone, help everyone, cry out for mercy and justice for everyone….but I’m only one person. There has to be something that I can do. There has to be something that we can do. I don’t believe we are all here on this Earth to simply “survive”, to simply “get by”, to simply concern ourselves merely with ourselves.
Yes, we can all agree there are awful things happening all around us, daily, everywhere. The question is: what are we gonna do about it? Post our outrage on social media? Complain and cry and grieve? Send our “thoughts” to others? I’ll be honest, I have done all these things. But in this season of my life I am feeling called to take action.
I’ve followed A21 for years. I’ve seen Christine Caine speak at conferences about her organization and heard of all the incredible things they have done. I have always felt very passionate about this subject of human trafficking but have never known what good I could do. Recently, a friend of mine sent me a link to A21’s annual Walk for Freedom. I knew this was the answer I had been looking for. God had put the same desire on her heart too.
Not only would I be able to march for something important, something that could free young people from a life they did not choose for themselves, I could raise money to assist this organization who is doing the hard work, on the ground floor, in the trenches. I could help, in some small way, the people who are putting their lives on the line to save sex slaves all over the world, and even right here, in America.
My friends and I have decided to join A21 for their 6th annual Walk For Freedom on October 19th. #WalkForFreedom is a global event that raises awareness and funds for the fight against human trafficking. We are fundraising because we know that our efforts can be the difference between slavery and freedom for many. That’s right: slavery still exists. It’s all around us and we don’t even realize it’s there. It’s hidden deep, in the darkness, helpless lives just waiting for light to come and rescue them from their pits of despair. Human trafficking uses children- children like you and I know or have. Even the thought of someone laying a hand on one of my young girls for their own disgusting sexual pleasure, sickens me to the point of nausea and unending tears. Something has to be done.
Even though each of us can’t do everything we can all do something. When we come together to advance the fight against slavery we can be the reason that a child is prevented from being forced to beg on the streets of Thailand, the reason that there is someone to pick up a hotline call from a victim at 3am in South Africa, the reason a survivor finds healing and restoration through our Freedom Center in America. Our giving and fundraising efforts make it all possible. Join us today, and together, we will advance the fight for freedom around the world.
We march October 19th, all over the world, taking a stand against the twisted corruption of God’s children. We will walk hand in hand, heads and hearts filled with prayers, crying out for change. For their freedom.
